Photographer David Nebreda was born on August 1, 1952 and was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 19. He lives in a small, two-room flat in Madrid where he is completely isolated from the outside world—no books, television, internet, phone, newspapers, etc.
Nebreda practices stints of fasting that cause him to become sickly thin. He also does not take medication for his schizophrenia which offers some explanation behind his photographs which are typically of himself after self-harm or flagellation.
